I READ with great interest the story of the sinking of the boat “Darlwyne” many years ago. The captain as I recall was a changed man after the accident.
My interest in this accident stems from the fact that I worked as a florist for my Uncle Harcourt Williams and made all the floral tributes for this tragic event. Every year the families would send a donation for floral tributes, which I would make up and deliver to the undertaker, who was Pamela Evans’ father.
The undertaker would then deliver the flowers to a boat whose occupants would scatter them over the water where the accident occurred, which was very sad and poignant.
When Pam’s father died she took over the scattering of flowers along with her brother, John. She did a sterling job and when unable to carry on she passed the job to her son, Geoffrey Evans, ex mayor of Falmouth – memory lane indeed!
