SKIPPER stated in a recent article that the Liberals were running County Hall. As I am the only Liberal elected to Cornwall county council, I can reassure you all that I am not running the show. However, there is a political group there called the Liberal-Democrats, who are running the show. I do not wish to be blamed for the mess being made at County Hall by the Lib-Dems because I am keenly supporting the Independents and other minor political parties in efforts to curb these Lib-Dem excesses where possible.
The Lib-Dems are nothing to do with the Liberal Party and you should not refer to them as the Liberals, as we Liberals are still active as a political party throughout Britain. Incidentally, David Penhaligon was never a member of the Lib-Dems as they never existed when David died. Please call the Lib-Dems something else - hopefully printable.
You have not reported two matters of service cuts, for example: The withdrawal of free transport for persons with learning difficulties and other disabilities to colleges and places of work (saving £100,000 and drastic cuts to bus transport subsidies, which has resulted in fewer buses running for the public across Cornwall (saving £66,000). I opposed these cuts and am alarmed that they would use these monies for funding a Lib-Dem-controlled free newspaper to all the households in Cornwall, when the social services budget is about £1 million short.
Councillor Paul Holmes, Liberal Party
