AFTER reading the front page article last week in respect of foreign dock workers, I was surprised that as a director of A&P Falmouth, Mr Mike Reynolds did not know how many foreign nationals were working for them, which countries they were from, their rates of pay and whether they are likely to be taking jobs from our casual workers.

Local people want facts. Is it not simply a phone call to someone that does have this information? Or that he does not wish to state these facts? Then simply "no comment" may have been better.

I can state it as a fact that there are still casual dock workers looking for employment. If these men do not have the skills required, could A&P not have subcontracted to local businesses, or is it a case of cheaper labour? Remember the saying "you get what you pay for". Is it just local jobs that are going to foreign workers, or is it housing also? And that just starts the ball rolling.

The docks used to be the main workforce of Falmouth, almost having a community in its own right, but all that seems to come from the docks recently, is a lot of disappointment and bitterness.
