So 2016 is drawing to a close, and what a year it’s been.

From the rise of Donald Trump to Brexit - whatever your opinion on those - plus what seems like more celebrity deaths than ever before, rarely have 12 months seemed so full-on.

There have also been some undoubtedly good stories, buried as they may have been, including Barack Obama banning all fossil fuel drilling in the Arctic, pronouncements from a progressive pope, and the news that the ridiculous Ice Bucket Challenge led to genuine breakthrough research.

Next year could see the continued march  of the right wing in France, Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands, among others. But let’s stay hopeful and, no matter how bad it gets, remember our fate rests with all of us.

Every little action helps. Be kind, and have a happy new year.
