Now you know the old Skipper. I’m not one to gripe and moan. I always have something positive to say about most things.

However I must make an exception with the recently much hyped Spaceport launch.

I know that it’s a great thing for Cornwall’s future direction being at the forefront of the space race but Monday night’s events were a teeny, tiny disappointment.

Now I know the Cornish have a reputation for doing things ‘dreckly’ but at least we could have got to the correct height to launch the satellites into space.

Now I know it’s easy to snipe from the sidelines (I’m not kidding, it really is) but it didn’t even have to take off from the ground on its own.

A bleddy great plane actually took it nearly to where it needed to be, launched it out of the plane where it proceeded to try and get to the right height, before desperately falling short. Story of Cornwall’s life really.

Now I know that control rooms are the centre of launches such as this, but hilariously ours looked like a taxi booking office. Quite quaint really.

Now I know it’s really desperately disappointing and lot of people have put a lot of time and effort into this, not to mention money.

So I suppose we have put on our big boy pants and have another go. As ‘dreckly’ itself means, we’ll get there in the end, but it may take longer than expected. Told you I could be positive.
