Firefighters were called out to the A39 at Playing Place just after noon after reports of a large lorry on fire.
Six firefighters from Truro attended a call to the lorry carrying a swing shovel, which was well alight when they arrived.
Two hose reels and two breathing apparatus was used to extinguish the fire, foam making equipment was set up in the event that the fire escalated.
A spokesman said: "Fortunately fire fighters got the blaze under control. Once the fire was out, crews refilled from a hydrant and returned to the scene to damp down any remaining hotspots. Firefighters made the scene safe before returning to station."
