Both Falmouth lifeboats were in action on Friday searching for a missing person along the coast.

Falmouth Coastguard requested that the inshore and all weather lifeboats be launched at 8.42pm following a request from the police for assistance.

The lifeboat boarding boat also joined the search of the Penryn and Falmouth area alongside the rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose.

After the inshore lifeboat launched from her slipway at 8.48pm she was tasked to search the Penryn River and Falmouth Inner Harbour.

The all weather lifeboat launched four minutes later, searching from the docks around Pendennis Point to Pennance Point.

The stations boarding boat joined the search at 8.58pm and was tasked with searching from Flushing to Restronguet.

With an ebbing tide and sunset at 9.27pm it was "important to complete the search as quickly as possible," a RNLI spokesperson said.

The lifeboat boarding boat had completed its search by 10.02pm and was released to return to station while both the inshore lifeboat and all weather lifeboats continued with their searches.

At 10.18pm the coastguard advised that new information received by the police indicated the main search area was inland, so both lifeboats were released to return to station.

The casualty was eventually located by police in the early hours of the morning.
