The RNLI have said that a two-year-old toddler found face down in a rock pool at a Cornish beach is expected to recover.

Lifeguards at Whitsand Bay raced to help the unconscious toddler after he was pulled from the water by his mother on Monday afternoon.

The youngster was given first aid and oxygen at the scene and airlifted to Plymouth's Derriford Hospital by Air Ambulance.

The Tamar coastguard team and South Western Ambulance Trust were also involved in the rescue.

Chris Wafer, RNLI lifeguard supervisor said: "Time is of great importance in situations like this - it was lucky that the little boy was spotted when he was as he'd already swallowed a lot of water."

The RNLI says that the boy has now been released from hospital.
