A woman from The Lizard has received a twelve month community order of 100 hours unpaid work after admitting housing benefit fraud totalling £10,727.78.

Andrea Thirlaway, aged 39, of The Lizard, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates Court on Friday 27 September 2013 to two counts of benefit fraud.

One related to failing to promptly report to Cornwall Council that she had an increase in earnings and one count of failing to promptly report that her son had commenced paid employment.

Mrs Thirlaway was also ordered to pay £920 in respect of the council's investigation and legal costs and a victim surcharge of £60.

The overpaid benefits are being recovered from Mrs Thirlaway by Cornwall Council separately from this Court action.
