Diverse and different brain stimulators saw members out and about in the last couple of weeks.

Saturday they were out at the local pub The King’s Head, Penryn. The ladies welcomed Simon (a man and non-member no less) to join their team for the St Gluvias Quiz Night. Finishing not too far behind the Mayor’s winning team the ladies decided they had coped quite well with the wide ranging general knowledge questions but had trouble locating Belarus on the map of Europe.

Monday was lunch time dining at The Norway Inn, Perranarworthal. The food struck some appetising chords on a wet day in a cordial atmosphere.

On Wednesday afternoon members were in comfortable seats with a cup of tea at the Falmouth Phoenix cinema. By one vote Diana was their choice, but afterwards the critique was ‘love and rubbish’. Perhaps the alternative film Rush with the excitement of FI racing would have more sustaining.

Plenty of paperback books were available for exchange between members at their meeting. Favourite authors were recommended including Patterson, Grisham, McDermid, Peter James, Victoria Hislop and Philippa Gregory. There was disappointment when none by author Dervla Murphy were on the table. Now in her eighties, Irish borne Murphy has published many books about her intrepid, mostly solo travels with her bicycle, to countries worldwide – an inspirational travel writer.

President Maggie Williams made sure that members had the dates and details of outings and meetings for October to December. In her warm encouraging way she said ‘No time to just sit indoors doing knitting; join in and keep going’. Best wishes were extended to absent members who were unable to attend because they were caring for family.
