GWINEAR, CROWAN AND GODOLPHIN HOSPICE SUPPORT GROUP: A concert took place in Godolphin Methodist Church on Sunday, September 29 which attracted a large audience. The Praze Hayle Male Choir, under their musical director Timothy Hosken and accompanist Margaret Bilkey, sang exceptionally well. Opening the first half was the uplifting “Hymn to Apollo” followed by “Go down Moses”. The guest artiste was well known local singer Gillian Rosewarne, who delighted the audience with her rendering of “Climb every Mountain” and “At the end of the day”. Ending the first half the choir sang a further three items which included “Song of the Jolly Roger.”

All the items were introduced by Timothy who gave everyone a good laugh with his comments.

In the second half Gillian had brought along her daughter, Stephanie, who is also well known locally for her singing and it was delightful to hear her sing “I could have danced all night” and “Wishing you were somehow here again” and finished by singing “Bridge over troubled water” together.

Finally, completing the concert the choir sang a medley from Oliver and the lovely “Evening Pastorale” by Wilfred Shaw.

Choir member, Rex Hall, who helped to arrange the event, gave a vote of thanks inviting everyone to the schoolroom for refreshments. Thanks are extended to all who helped in any way and £350 was raised for the hospices. METHODISTS: The service on Sunday was conducted by Chris Smith from Helston. His talk throughout concentrated on the fact that marriage is the union we have with Christ. Mavis Harper accompanied the hymns, which were all from Mission Praise.

MISSION MOLDOVA CHARITY: The tenth anniversary took place in Balwest Chapel schoolroom on Saturday, September 21 with a celebration tea. Over 100 people attended including two ladies from Romania. It was also a privilege to have entertainment from the Cober Valley Accordion Band. Committee members Richard and Kate Crawshaw, along with their voluntary helpers who run the charity shop came from Liskeard. Tea was donated by charity members and friends and gave the opportunity to thank local organisations, churches and individual persons who spend time knitting beautiful garments for the young people in Moldova and to those who regularly donate items.

The charity is often thanked for all the work it does, but as secretary Jean Anderson-Archbold says “the humanitarian aid to Moldova, Romania and elsewhere could not continue without the help of those who regularly donate, so grateful thanks must go to them”. She also extended thanks to all who worked so hard to make the occasion a memorable one.

GODOLPHIN FRIENDS: The next meeting is on October 15 at 7pm in Townshend village hall. Karen La Borde will be talking about interpreting Godolphin’s history using architecture, maps, letters, leases and account books – all welcome. The recent barn dance raised £179 and the committee would like to thank all the people who donated raffle prizes and made puddings.
