Last week’s early communion service was conducted by the Rev Geoffrey Thorpe, who also led morning worship.

Prayers of intercession were led by Douglas Wearne and Ruth Drew. Bible readings from Isaiah chapter 43 and Luke chapter 9 were by Rachael and Harry Chant.

Mr Thorpe spoke about defining moments, such as the attack of 9/11 and said that, for the Israelites the parting of the Red Sea was such a moment. We were advised not to set up monuments to the past as God looks to the future. There will be new life and we must be sure that the church serves God’s purpose. At the close of the service Claire Pickering led the congregation in singing a South African Xhosa song.

Music was by David Wingham at the piano, with Matt on drums, Tim on guitar and Andy on cornet.

A Coffee and Cake morning was held in the hall on Saturday in aid of the ShelterBox Philippine Fund. A good number of people attended to sample the delicious cakes and support the cause.

This week’s family service was conducted by Alan Offord from Falmouth, with the theme Are we ready for the King? As this was the Sunday before Advent the question was apt. Thomas helped Alan with a card sequence demonstration to remind us not to leave Jesus the King out of Christmas. The congregation read Matthew chapter 24 v 45 to 51 and Matthew chapter 7 v 21 to 23 together. Alan asked “Who is on your throne? Is it God?”

As it was Stir Up Sunday Lydia helped Alan make a cake which burst into flames and the resulting biscuits were shared among the congregation. Alan then spoke about how we all have scars but Jesus forgives and makes us whole.

David Wingham was pianist and coffee and biscuits were shared in the hall after the service.
