There was a good attendance at the club's first meeting of 2014 held in the Methodist Church in Fore Street at 2.30pm on Friday.
Chairperson, Dorothy Pountain, welcomed everyone. The guest speaker, Michael Hosking, a well-known, local, retired fisherman was introduced by Joan Ford. Mr Hosking told his audience how he had started lobster fishing with his father when he was 15. Later he bought his own boat and described how the methods of catching fish changed and developed over the years. He brought with him two large photographs of the last boat he owned, a trawler named Silver Harvester. He recounted some personal stories demonstrating the hazards and dangers of the fishing industry.
Mrs Ford thanked him for his very interesting talk.
The next meeting on Friday, January 24 at 2.30pm in the Methodist Church will be an open meeting when Sarah Newton from Cornwall Hospice Care will be the guest speaker. Everyone is very welcome to attend.
