A former Radio Cornwall presenter from Falmouth wed on Sunday to become none other than Mrs Cowell.

Emma Lloyd, who used to host a weekday afternoon radio show before becoming head of fundraising for Children’s Hospice South West’s Little Harbour, married partner of eight years Tony Cowell in London.

Mr Cowell, who has a home with Emma in Falmouth, is brother to TV and music giant Simon Cowell, currently on screens in Britain’s Got Talent and set to return to the X-Factor later this year.

It means the new Mrs Lloyd-Cowell, as she is now known, has fully entered the celebrity world that includes being aunt to Simon Cowell’s new baby son Eric.

Simon was among the 35 guests at the wedding in Chelsea, together with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman, X-Factor judge Louis Walsh and one of its former contestants Jahmene.

The couple’s friends from Cornwall – including their neighbours Yvonne and Alistair Castle, who works at RNAS Culdrose, and Sarah and Dick Stephens from Emma’s former home village of Cadgwith – also travelled to London to help them celebrate.

Also attending was Simon Cowell’s ex-girlfriend Sinitta, who remains a close friend and confidante. She gave a “hilarious” speech as part of the proceedings.

She later tweeted out: “Brother Tony and Sister Emma getting married today! Perfect evening for a wedding. Loving Sunny London [sic].”

The happy couple married at the historic Kensington and Chelsea Register Office in King’s Road before hosting their wedding reception at Cibo Restaurant in Kensington, enjoying westcountry caught food with an Italian twist. It included lobster spaghetti and monkfish.

Speaking exclusively to the Packet, author turned showbiz magazine correspondent Tony Cowell said: “It’s been a long time and we kept putting it off. It was finding the right time for everyone to be there, particularly some parts of my family who are in America. Simon and Lauren flew over the night before the wedding.”

And he laughed: “We’ve been engaged for eight years so I thought I should move it on!”

Tony described the day as “very, very informal” which was just what they wanted, having both been married before.

Paying tribute to his “gorgeous” new wife, he added: “Everyone says it’s the happiest day of their life, but everything just seemed to come together.

“We fought desperately to try and keep this very much our thing and not some celebrity big wedding in an obscure hotel, and we managed to do what we set out to do. We just never stopped smiling and laughing.”

Former West End actress Emma agreed: “It’s exciting; we’re just thrilled we finally got our act together to do it.”

She wore a knee-length fitted white dress, birdcage veil and blue shoes as her “something blue.”

Emma described marrying into one of the world’s most famous families as “actually not a big deal”, adding: “It’s just my now-husband’s family and I love them all to bits. We spend a lot of time together as a family and go on holiday together.

“I think it’s a bigger deal for other people than it is for me.”

She revealed that Simon was planning a family holiday in Cornwall in the next few months and said: “We’re looking forward to them coming to stay with us. It will be wonderful to get them to Cornwall.”

The newlyweds plan to go abroad in the summer, but for now are enjoying honeymooning at home in Falmouth

Tony said: “We always say when we’ve been in London or America that it’s wonderful to get back here and just chill out. It’s just a terrific place to live.”
