Volunteers from McDonald’s were giving some of Falmouth’s play areas a bit of tender loving care last week with a litter pick.
As part of Keep Britain Tidy’s ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign, of which the fast food chain is a sponsor, a team of volunteers from McDonald’s branches near Falmouth carried out a litter pick at Trescobeas play area, up as far as Falmouth Cricket Club, before moving on to two smaller play areas between Acacia Road and Oakfield Road, collecting more rubbish as they went.
Organiser Ian Reynolds, who works at McDonald’s in Falmouth, said: “It’s about giving back a bit to the community, looking after the area, and each year we go to a different location.”
He added that although they hadn’t found any particularly unusual items, they had found traffic cones and “could have kitted out a person with all the clothes we’ve found.”
Councillor David Saunby, who helped the team, said: “I think it is really great that the staff from various McDonald’s outlets can get together, and get involved with caring for the local area, by providing this simple, but most welcome free service for the community.”
