Police are appealing for witnesses to an unprovoked assault which left a Newquay man with a serious facial injury.

Officers were called to Bank Street around 3.40am on Sunday 3 August after the 32-year-old victim was assaulted by another man.

The victim, who is from Newquay, was walking home with his friend when the male offender started shouting over abuse.

The offender then approached and punched the victim twice in the face causing a nasty cut above his eye which required 18 stitches during hospital treatment.

The offender ran off shouting further abuse after committing the assault.

Police are now seeking the suspect who is described as white, around 5ft 3ins to 5ft 4ins tall, and of medium build. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, a grey hoody, blue jeans and white trainers.

Officers are also appealing for witnesses to the incident and any information to help trace the suspect.
