For the third year in a row a 23-year-old from The Lizard is set to put on his running shoes in memory of his grandparents.

David Norton, who works at Abbey in Helston, is once again taking part in the London Marathon, running for Cornwall Hospice Care.

David explained: "A couple of my grandparents went in hospices and that's why I've decided to do it for them again. They're a nice charity."

He said that what makes him come back year after year is the thrill of the challenge - and this year he hopes to improve on his time from last year, of four hours and 50 minutes.

"The atmosphere is absolutely awesome. It's brilliant," he added.

David has been in training since November, generally running around the outside of RNAS Culdrose, and has just begun stepping up the pace ahead of the marathon in April.

In order to be allowed to run in the marathon he needs to raise at least £1,500, to secure his place. His total has been boosted with a £500 donation from Abbey and he hopes to further increase it with a quiz night on February 16, which he is holding at the Top House at The Lizard from 7.30pm.

In the future he would also like to organise a charity auction and is currently contacting rugby and football clubs to see if they would donate merchandise.

"I would just like to raise as much money as possible really," he said.
