Helston men's rugby team looked scrummy last Saturday playing a charity match in flowery dresses. And if things weren't mixed up enough, the men in drag decided to play their forwards at the back and their backs up front.

As promised last week, the fun rugby game pitched the men's team against the women's and it was a close run affair.

Jan Rendle may well have a few selection problems after watching the game, with the Jenkins brothers outstanding in their new positions at scrum half and fly half. Barry Williams in particular made a memorable figure, with all of his five feet and six inches being put to use in the line out.

With all the other activities, including a raffle, auction and "horse racing", over £1,000 was raised towards helping Helston mother Tara Trethowan take part in a charity trek in aid of ChildLine which will cover 160km of Lesotho, South Africa. Mrs Trewothan now has nearly £1,500, but still needs another £1,500 if she is to ever see Africa.

It's a good job that Tara has a lot more charity fundraisers up her sleeve. On Friday, Porthleven School will be having a non-uniform and bad hair day for the children, and next Monday will see the Porthleven Guides stage a coffee evening for "mums and guides".

There will also be a charity gig on March 17 at the Blue Anchor in Helston, with a barbecue and live bands for a £2 entrance fee.

Back with the rugby, neither side can claim victory. The score? A fair tie at 15-15. Either side could have triumphed, with both teams holding three unconverted tries apiece. But the worst news is that the dresses didn't fool anyone.
