ILLOGAN 5 RNAS CULDROSE 0p> ILLOGAN produced their best all-round display of the season in the Jolly's Combination League to set up a convincing 5-0 win over RNAS Culdrose.

Having enjoyed a good run of results Culdrose might have thought they were in with a chance of pulling off a surprise result against the league leaders, but it never materialised.

"I'm happy with the way we played because we never gave up," said Culdrose assistant manager Neil Rudkin. "After Illogan's poor performance the previous week we half expected a bit of a backlash, but although they deserved to win I thought the scoreline flattered them.

"At the end of the day these things happen and on this occasion you have to give Illogan full credit for their win. They are a very good side who play very good football and there were no grumbles about the result in the dressing room after the match."

Playing up the slope and against a strong wind, the writing was on the wall for the servicemen as early as the fifth minute when Andy Cowper was brought down by goalkeeper Neil Rudkin after the striker was put through by Rodney Gregory. Gregory took the spotkick and made no mistake.

Illogan looked particularly sharp, but were made to work hard by a resilient visiting team who had chances through Jamie Thompson, Jamie Adam and Jamie Marles, but never really tested goalkeeper Danny Burrows.

Cowper gave Illogan the perfect start to the second half when his shot was blocked, but he regained possession and although forced to work his way across the box gave the 'keeper no chance with his second effort.

Rudkin made another fine save from Josh Kemp, but in the 76th minute he had no chance after deflecting Nicky Medlin's free kick on to the bar. It rebounded to Ben Widdershoven who hooked the ball back across the goal for Cowper to head in despite claims from Culdrose that the ball had gone out of play.

Illogan extended their lead to 4-0 in the 80th minute when Rob Bray picked up a pass from Ryan Treloar and fired home a well-struck 20-yard into the top corner of the net and a minute from time Illogan put the seal on a fine victory when Simon Ellis ran on to Treloar's pass and found Medlin who executed a perfect chip shot over Rudkin.
