Harvest festival morning worship was conducted by Shirley Wearne, whose call to worship was: Now the year is crowned with blessing.
Some of the young people helped to create a rainbow of fruit in front of the harvest donation tables, where Shirley had also placed a rainbow of hands.
Ben Reed sang John Rutter’s All things Bright and Beautiful. Esther and John Osborne read from Mark chapter 4, the parables of the Sower and the Mustard Seed. Shirley read Philip’s viewpoint and the meditation of Joseph of Arimathea’s Gardener.
Shirley then spoke about giving thanks in all circumstances and having an attitude of gratitude. God will provide the harvest in His time but we have to plant the seeds.
Music was provided by Nicola Hale on the piano, Rose Didlick on clarinet and Ben Reed on drums. Paul Triggs was on the computer.
Harvest supper was on Monday night and the community singing was led by Paul Brown with Margaret Eva on the piano. Ivor Mann auctioned the fruit and flowers with proceeds being split between the Methodist Relief and Development Fund and Action for Children. All non-perishable goods were donated to the Food Bank.
