A last minute appeal has gone out for old pictures of the River Fal, or its surrounding towns and villages for an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum, Cornwall. The deadline for entries is Friday February 23.

The museum is calling on local people to lend pictures of the maritime history of the River Fal and its surrounding towns and villages for the Your Falmouth exhibition.

Curator, Jo Warburton said: "Falmouth grew as a town because of its maritime connections and we want to celebrate this. We hope this exhibition, created by the people of Falmouth, Penryn and around the River Fal will add to the story we already tell of the Packet ships."

From Edwardian strollers on Swanpool Beach through to postcards of the Cutty Sark, the museum has already had a positive response.

The exhibition will run for three months from late March. Those with a picture, document or photograph telling the maritime history of the towns, waterside or river which and are prepared to lend it to the musuem are asked to get in touch with Jo Warbuton on 01326 313388.

Museum director, Jonathan Griffin said: "We have already expanded our Cornwall Galleries and we are now turning our attention to Cornwall's most influential port. We really want local people to become involved in the museum and this is the ideal way."
