The November meeting was a talk by Margaret Woolcock on the theme Echoes of Remembrance.

Following the welcome by chairman, Priscilla Oates, the singing of the National Anthem and a minute’s silence, poems written by two young members, Kyle and George on the subject of Remembrance, were read.

Mrs Woolcock then described how after she and her family moved to Belgium in 1972, they discovered the grave of a British soldier in the local cemetery. The family adopted the grave and over the years researched the soldier's history, discovering that he was J H Birtwell of the Lancashire Fusiliers, awarded the DCM for running messages along the lines at the Somme, where he was killed in October 1918 aged 21. The family still maintain the connection, visiting the grave in Belgium as often as possible.

Following Mrs Woolcock's poignant story, a video was shown of Kyle Greet's school project on the old airship station at Bonython and chairman Priscilla concluded the evening of reminiscences with some personal memories of her own.

Tea was served and the raffle drawn.

The next meeting on Monday, December 8 at 7.30pm will be the AGM.

Mullion Heritage Centre has closed its 2014 exhibition, Mullion at War, after a very successful season. Despite a later opening, owing to water damage to the building, many photographs and artefacts with a Mullion connection have been loaned or donated and many visitors have enjoyed discovering Mullion's wartime past.

Particularly pleasing have been links with Helston museum, who staged a talk for the whole primary school, visits to the centre by individual classes and an assembly of six Mullion wartime stories which the children found useful for their projects.

The centre will open again at Easter 2015 when the theme will be, Mullion at work and play. Our 2015 calendar on that theme is now on sale at £5 each.

Grateful thanks to the Heritage committee, the many stewards and all who helped and supported us this year.
