Police have reported that there are "technical issues for residents in Cornwall using telephones and mobiles when calling the non-emergency 101 number.
A spokesman said this is an issue with the automated 101 exchange and something over which they have no control.
Adding: "The provider is carrying out urgent work to rectify this issue, please do not call 999 in the meantime unless there is a genuine emergency, non urgent enquiries can be made via the police website's 101 contact form or via email 101 at 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk.
