A cardboard box on an electric hob sparked a call out for three fire crews on Tuesday evening.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were called at 6pm to reports of a property in Lerryn which was filled with smoke, and two crews from Lostwithiel and one from Polruan were sent to the scene.
A fire service spokesperson said: "On arrival the crews found a two storey house heavily smoke logged. On gaining entry they found a cardboard box burning on top of an electric hob.
"The crews wore breathing apparatus and used a hosereel to extinguish the fire."
