Spotted: One of Helston’s most famous products has |been reaching a wider audience, as the Blue Anchor’s renowned ale Spingo was recently sighted in a shop in a corner of leafy Surrey.
Like Carlsberg, which was “so great the Danes hated to |see it leave,” it would seem |that the residents of Helston rarely allowed their famous tipple to leave the town’s confines; however bottles have somehow surfaced in the shop at the Hog’s Back Brewery in Tongham, near Guildford.
The reason Spingo rarely leaves the county could perhaps be explained by the shop owner, who admitted |that such a powerful beer does not always travel so well, and bottles had been known to erupt during their journey.
But for now at least, Helstonians can rest assured that they have a very characterful export representing their town on the other side of the Tamar.
