Two elderly people were rescued from a house fire this morning after their cries for help were heard and reported to the emergency services.
Firefighters from Penzance and St Just were called to the Newlyn property at around 9am after a call was received stating a smoke alarm could be heard sounding and someone could be heard shouting for help.
Further 999 calls were then received stating smoke could be seen issuing from the property.
A fire service spokesperson said: "On arrival firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued two elderly casualties from the property, who were left in the care of the ambulance service. Firefighters then extinguished the fire.
"A fire investigation is currently being carried out into this incident."
