There was plenty to test the little grey cells when Helston Rotary Club held a charity quiz for members and friends.

“What part of the body is the ‘hallux’?” was among the “easier” questions at the event, which is fast becoming one of the most popular on the club’s calendar.

Around 60 members and guests from other Rotary clubs packed into the Wheal Dream for an evening of mind-bending questions, made up of eight rounds and five sheets of table quizzes.

It kept the teams of four occupied for more than three hours, with a break for refreshments.

The winning team, which was awarded the David Hutchinson Memorial Trophy and six |bottles of wine, proved to |be the Cober Cuties from Cober Valley Rotary Club, with |the medically-oriented Rum |Coves, led by Geoff Wolstencroft and featuring two doctors, coming second.

Winner of the best-named team and third placed was Bring Back Terry’s Tuxedo Fundraising Squad.

As a result of the event, around £400 was raised towards the Cove Cancer Support |Centre campaign, with the Helston club pledging to raise £10,000 overall.

Thanks were given to the efforts of Nigel Treloar in organising the event, Terry Thompson for the questions and Tim Grattan-Kane for running the raffle.

David Hutchinson’s widow Coleen was guest of honour for the evening and received a bouquet from president Benny Vleminckx.

And for those still scratching their heads over the answer to “hallux” – it is another name for your big toe.
