The public is being reminded that hoax calls endanger lives after 999 operators received a call from Newquay early this morning.
A fire service spokesperson said: "At 3.41am we received a malicious call from a mobile phone in the Newquay area.
"The operator challenged the caller and it was deemed that an emergency response would not be sent. All details including the mobile phone number have been passed to Devon and Cornwall Police."
