After declaring the highest alert level on Tuesday due to pressure on services, hospital chiefs in Cornwall say the situation is improving.
Operations were cancellled, some staff had leave cancelled and patients were kept on trolleys for hours as the NHS trust struggled to cope, with patients told to stay away from the Royal Cornwall Hospital Emergency Department in Truro unless absolutly necessary.
While the 'significant incident' status remains in place today (Wednesday) across the whole health and social care system in Cornwall the situation is said to be improving.
Patients are advised to call 111 or visit their doctor or pharmacist unless they are in a serious or life-threatening condition.
