Police in Penzance are warning of people going door to door in the Penzance area pretending to be RSPCA inspectors.
Officers in the town say that they have bee asking for details about pets living at the address and try to gain access.
So far this has been reported to have happened in the Heamoor, Crowlas, Ludgvan areas of Penzance as well as St Erth.
A spokesman said: "Do not let them in. If they come to your address please call us on 101 so that we can deal with and verify who this people are."
Police recommend following some simple steps to to safeguard yourselves or relatives.
1. If you have a chain on your door put it across before you answer to prevent them coming in 2. Always check for an ID badge. If they are not displaying one ask for one. If they do not have one at all ask them to leave. Legitimate people will always have one.
3. DO NOT give them any personal details about yourself or your family what so ever.
4. Make everyone that you know, particularly elderly or vulnerable relatives, aware of this individuals to protect them.
5. DON'T let young children answer the door as they are easy targets and the persons use this as an easy way into your home.
6. Under no circumstances allow these individuals in and if you have contact with them call us immediately.
