HALL For Cornwall has just gone out to tender for architects to put together proposals to carry out much needed development work to secure the future of the theatre.

The hall believes the people of Cornwall deserve access to the best performing arts possible, to rival any city in the country. As such, it is planning a significant £15.4m capital redevelopment project to reconfigure its "tired" Grade II* listed building. The challenge will be to overcome its existing physical constraints to create an updated, fit-for-purpose venue offering greatly improved facilities for both audiences and artists that can contribute to cultural sector growth and the county’s economy.

While the overall redevelopment proposal is yet to be fully realised, once the tender is complete the hall will be eager to see what the chosen architect comes up with in terms of the design of the proposed project. As part of the proposed development and heritage planning, its audiences, the local community, including the flea market stallholders who trade in the Boscawen end of the building, and the wider public will be consulted.

Julien Boast, director-HFC, said: “Hall For Cornwall already makes a significant contribution to the regional economy, both as a cultural hub and great place to visit. While there is still much work to be done, successful completion of the project will sustain and improve this contribution and ensure the Hall continues to be a major asset for the people of Cornwall for generations to come.”
