COASTLINE Housing’s Homeless Service in Camborne held a special event to celebrate the many hundreds of hours its volunteers dedicate to helping people without a home of their own get back on their feet.

The celebration day coincided with National Volunteers Week, when volunteers across the country were recognised for their good work, and with Coastline’s achievement of the national Investing in Volunteers accreditation.

Kirsty Hickson, Business Manager, explained: “We have an extremely strong volunteer base at the homeless centre and we value them hugely. Some of our volunteers were once clients of the homeless service themselves and therefore understand just how easily someone can become homeless, often through no fault of their own.”

The celebration day included a cooking session led by top chef Sanjay Kumar, a graffiti workshop, art workshop and the presentation of certificates to the centre’s volunteers. Cornwall College, who work closely with the service to develop courses for clients, provided a buffet.

Coastline’s Homeless Service is currently the only organisation based in Cornwall to earn the national Investing in Volunteers accreditation.

Kirsty adds: “We invest heavily in the training and development of our volunteers. As they are giving such an invaluable service to us, we are just as keen to give something back to them.”
