Wire: Without them Britpop could have sounded very different, they inspired a new wave of punk music, and now they're headed to Falmouth.

The punk-rock front-runners turned post-punk pioneers are the latest band to sign up for a gig at new rock venue Mono, as it's announced they will be playing on October 23.

Formed in 1977, the four-piece quickly developed an art-rock, post-punk sound which saw them gain cult following rather than mainstream success, influencing the likes of Blur, Elastica, and REM through to Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand.

Mono has started building a name as a provider of great live indie-rock in the heart of Falmouth. With an opening weekend that included gigs from Toy and The Ordinary Boys, they have mixed local bands with up-and-coming acts such as recent lo-fi punks Chain of Flowers and an upcoming gig from Fortuna Pop's Evans the Death, and as well as Wire the venue has also announced a gig for 70s post-punks The Pop Group.

Tickets for Wire will cost £17.50, and will go on sale on Friday at 9am via http://buytickets.at/what-we-do-is-secret/29604 or from MONO.
