Last minute plans were being put in place for Devoran Church's 150th anniversary celebrations at the weekend.

An appeal for bunting to put around the village and church was a success and with themed flower displays in the church and a large collection of old photographs, it is hoped as many people as possible will attend over the holiday period.

On Saturday there will be organ recitals throughout the day and refreshments will be served in the Parish Centre.

The work of the children of Devoran School will play a large part in the Exhibition and each child has received an individual invitation from the vicar the Rev Derek Carrivick to the special birthday service on Sunday May 6 at 10am. The Scouts, Guides and Beavers are mounting their own displays.

On Bank holiday Monday, the Bishop of Truro, The Rt Rev Bill Ind will open the Party in the Park', when those attending are being asked to take a long of plate of food to share out although drinks will be available.

Young people will have plenty to do. As well as the bouncy castle and organised games, there will be many stalls and a Pavement Artist Competition' in the village hall, to be judged by the Bishop and Lady Mary Holborow, the Methodist minister, the Rev Margaret Barnes, Jon Dyer and Mark Dunford.

There will be teas in the village hall.

The actual date of consecration of the church will be celebrated on May 23 with a service of thanksgiving which will include the Washaway West End Gallery Choir.
