The boss of Truro City Football Club, who is also head of a Cornish building group, has been included in the much acclaimed Sunday Times Rich List.

Kevin Heaney, who runs Cornish Homes, has been placed 458 in the list, up from 944 last year. His fortune is said to have grown from £60 million to £154 million and Mr Heaney agrees he is "flattered."

But while 44-year-old Mr Heaney may be rich he is also well known for giving cash away. His company are sponsors of the Hall for Cornwall, he is a mentor for the Prince's Trust, is involved in the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall's trust fund and has helped many a young footballer in the county.

Mr Heaney told the Packet: "I am flattered to be listed in this way, but more than anything I would like to think it highlights the outstanding achievements to date of all those working for me, directly and indirectly.

"I have assembled an absolutely fabulous team in the seven years that I have been based in Cornwall, which is now very much home to my family, and me," said Mr Heaney.

"The wealth listing reflects the rapid growth of my Cornish business interests, which include a substantial land bank at various locations in the county."

Through Cornish Homes and Truro City football club - of which he is chairman - his company now directly employs more than 50 people which, together with all the spin-off contribution to the Cornish economy from associates, suppliers, contractors and sub-contractors, "makes me extremely proud."

In the seven years that Mr Heaney has been in Cornwall he has come to love every minute of it.

"I absolutely adore Cornwall and I only want to develop in Cornwall now. The target is for the Cornish Homes Group to be Cornwall's biggest mixed use developer within five years," he said.

But he says he is equally pleased to have had the opportunity to be involved in the Cornish community.

For the moment, however, he is counting the days to when his Truro City footballers take to the hallowed turf of the new Wembley stadium for the FA Carlsberg Vase final. "See you all at Wembley," said Mr Heaney.

The Sunday Times Rich List, which includes 1,000 of the wealthiest people in Britain, says Mr Heaney's company is worth £130 million while he has other assets and a home in Monaco.

A regular in the Rich List has been Bruce Robertson, boss of the Trago Mills empire. This year the Robertson family come in at number 700, down from 554 last year, although the family is listed as being worth the same at £100 million.

The company, headed by 54-year-old Mr Robertson, produced £6.5 million profits on £109 million in sales for 2005.

A new entry in the list is former Queen star Roger Taylor who comes from Truro and has a house near Mawnan Smith.

The 57-year-old drummer, who was also involved in the initial development of the maritime museum in Falmouth, benefits from extensive royalties and is said to be worth £70 million.

For the record the richest person listed is steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and family with £19,250 million.

The Sunday Times Rich List is the 19th compiled by Philip Beresford with Stephen Boyd.
