LUDGVAN u12s 0 HELSTON u12s 4 A DRAW was all Helston needed to clinch the Kernow League title, but they started nervously as both sides struggled to control the game with neither side passing the ball with any precision.

Ludgvan were industrious, quick to close down and tackle the Helston midfield which stifled their usual relaxed manner of play.

After 10 minutes, Helston worked the ball wide and found the inform Bradley Curtis whose pinpoint cross was met by Ryan Williams who opened his body to steer the ball into the bottom corner of the net as winger Callum Jones lay injured from an earlier attack.

The crowd was expecting Helston to retain the ball and dominate possession, but instead appeared more jittery than normal.

This allowed Ludgvan back into the game and three times they had to be thankful to Dan Coleman in the Helston goal as they broke through in one on one situations where each time he saved well from the marauding forwards.

In the second half Helston began to play with a more measured calm and began giving the Ludgvan team the run around.

With Jason Williams and Callum Jones returning to the play, Helston's attacking options increased and it wasn't long before Jakub Chambers released Ryan Dowe through the middle. The ball bounced and sat up invitingly for him to hit a volley beyond the keeper's reach.

Then a half clearance fell to Matt Rosewarne who stepped aside for his strike partner Ryan Williams, but his curling effort rebounded off the bar.

With confidence returning, the neat passing play appeared as Helston began switching the direction of play. Using the pace of Callum Jones down the right wing, opportunities were going to arrive and one such cross was headed into his own net by one of Ludgvan's impressive defenders.

All that was left was for the skipper to get on the score heet and after he had had one effort from long range tipped away he finally scored with a fine individual effort.

Helston kept going to the end and happily ended the game giving all players a run out as they prepare for next week's Cup Final against Ludgvan at Penryn.
