WENDRON 9 LUDGVAN 0

WENDRON chalked up what is probably their biggest-ever win in the Jolly's Combination League, but it is almost certain to be wiped from the record books.

Their victims, Ludgvan, were trailing 9-0 at half-time when the match had to be abandoned by referee Steve Rose after the visitors were reduced to six players.

The sorry state that Ludgvan found themselves in will be of no concern to Wendron, but having to replay the game, will, especially after their opponents arrived with just eight players. Even then the players did not arrive together with the kick off being delayed for another 15 minutes to allow others to arrive and make up the numbers.

For a senior side to find themselves in that position will need a good explanation especially as they fielded a reserve side in the One and All Sports Mining League division two against Goonhavern.

It would seem inconceivable that Wendron would not be awarded the points for being the innocent party in such a fiasco, but unfortunately for Wendron having to replay the game looks a certainty with Ludgvan facing a heavy fine and making a return trip to Underlane.

Wendron manager Steve Webber was unhappy that the Ludgvan senior side arrived with eight players and the club's reserves were in action at Goonhavern with a full complement: "I would have preferred to have played Ludgvan with 11 players on Saturday and not eight as it eventually turned out to be.

"One player left the field with an injury when we were awarded a penalty and during the interval it was learned that a second player was unable to continue which meant the game had to be abandoned.

"I think it is a poor state of affairs for a senior club who also have a reserve team playing on the same day being unable to field a proper side.

"Cricket has been suggested as a source of the problem, but we had people playing cricket as well and still managed to field three teams."

Scott Whitney will be disappointed that the game has to be replayed because he scored with an absolute 25-yard screamer and 16-year-old Jamie Wilkes also found the back of the net.

Chris James, Mike O'Neill, and David Toy scored with the top marksman of the half, Glynn Hobbs, scoring four goals.

However, none of them will count in the league's records.

On Saturday Wendron are away to Hayle, kick off 30 pm.

Wendron: B Scoffin, C James, G Pascoe, J Wilkes, D Toy, S Johnston, A Toy, S Whitney, J Searle, G Hobbs, M O'Neill. Subs: T Harris, S Hodson.
