A Royal Navy sailor from Porthtowan has just passed a gruelling course to qualify as a physical training instructor.
Cameron Forbes, 24, will now coach health and fitness to the 2,000 sailors at RNAS Culdrose. The six month course at HMS Temeraire, the Royal Navy’s School of Physical Training in Portsmouth, included circuit and weight training, sport science, strength and conditioning, diet and nutrition and sports administration.
It culminated in a spectacular display of skills learnt in training, including gymnastics and rope climbing, in front of 200 families and friends of the 15 graduates.
Cameron joined the Navy in 2010 as a chef and is a former pupil of Richard Lander School in Truro. His career includes serving on board assault ship HMS Bulwark and survey vessel HMS Enterprise.
He said: “The course was very demanding, both physically and mentally, but the sense of achievement is huge. I will have friends, memories and skills for life from being on the course and I now look forward to my new job at Culdrose and the new challenges it presents.”
