THE call has gone out for volunteers to take part in Helston Town Tidy Week.

Now in its fourth year, this year's event, organised by Helston in Bloom, runs from Sunday, April 17 to Saturday, April 23 with a thank you get together on the Saturday evening.

Now an established community event, the volunteer group is once again calling on residents, businesses and groups to come together during the week to help Helston shine in time for Flora Day.

Last year’s event was a phenomenal success with over 190 volunteers coming forward, over 30 bags of debris and rubbish collected, equated to over 2.5 tonnes, and nearly 800 volunteer hours collectively given.

The town received recognition by receiving the CIWM Clean Britain Community Award for the hard work undertaken by the volunteers.

Helston in Bloom, who have taken over administration of the event from HBIP, are positive that this year’s event will be even bigger.

Rose Sanders, Chair of Helston in Bloom said “We have already had pledges of participation from Tesco, Sainsburys, Culdrose and other local businesses and organisations within the town. However we are particularly keen to involve as many members of the general public as possible. Even an hour of your time over the week will make all the difference.”

The group are also keen to hear from individuals with ideas on which areas need the most improvement and can also assist local groups in organising a litter pick or tidy in their own area.
