Volunteers are wanted to join the team at East Pool Mine this spring and help bring the place to life for visitors.

In July 2006, the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Ten years on from this remarkable achievement, the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site Partnership has commissioned an exciting summer-long set of inspirational events and experiences for what it is calling a Tinth Anniversary programme.

Every one of the ten areas of the UK’s largest World Heritage Site, which includes East Pool Mine, will host a wide variety of events that focus on world changing industrial innovations.

East Pool Mine, which is tucked away behind Morrisons in Pool, is currently looking for volunteers who would like to share Cornwall’s mining past with the thousands of people who visit each year. Whether it’s helping in the shop, guiding in the engine houses or helping with fun family activities, the volunteers help to keep the mine open for everyone to enjoy.

National Trust volunteers have the opportunity to work with a team of experts, learning new skills, helping people understand a fascinating piece of history and, most importantly, making new friends. Volunteers can also visit all National Trust places for free.

Tegen Oates-White, visitor experience officer, said: “This time of year is always exciting as the team get ready to welcome visitors and volunteers for a new season. We have a friendly and welcoming volunteer community and we try to arrange regular trips and talks so that everyone gets a chance to meet outside of their volunteering time.”
