The Royal British Legion is in desperate need of a Poppy Appeal organiser for Falmouth and unless one is found, the charity could lose around £14,000 that is usually generated in the

town.

If the position is not filled, ideally by the end of August, there will be no poppies for sale in Falmouth during this year's two week remembrance period in October and November.

Falmouth has been without a PAO since the end of the last appeal when the local organiser stepped down after four years of sterling service, not only to the Poppy Appeal but also the Falmouth community.

Annie Binding, county fundraiser for the Poppy Appeal, said: “I am desperate to try and fill the shoes of our last organiser – that’s a big job in itself as the lovely Fiona was so good. However, I feel there is an individual or a group out there to take on the role.

"There is a small band of volunteers who are prepared to assist and/or collect. We just need someone who can order and store items and organise those volunteers. We are blessed with having nearly 90 PAO’s across the county, a position which has long since formed the backbone of the legion’s network of volunteers. Without them the Poppy Appeal quite simply can’t be delivered. They are fantastic group of people.”

Poppy Appeal organisers do not need a military connection, they just need to be organised and enjoy interacting with others. The role does require commitment, but it's a varied and rewarding role. Most effort is required between October and November, with very minimal occasional administration. Training is provided and expenses are reimbursable.
