Coastline’s Homeless Service undertook a much needed clean-up of the Spinney in Camborne and collected 41 bags of waste, weeds and litter.
The clean-up was organised by Coastline’s Julie Poole, with help from Cornwall councillor Paul White and town councillor Jacqueline Merrick. Clients and volunteers of the homeless service, Biffa and the Green and Clean Team all worked together to undertake a full day of weeding and litter picking. Everyone was rewarded with a thank you BBQ at the Homeless Day Centre afterwards.
Coastline Housing’s Kirsty Hickson said: “We were shocked to find a child’s bike, a car tyre and two traffic cones amongst the vegetation. Throughout the day people were thanking us and commenting on what a transformation had taken place. I’d like to thank everyone who helped and supported us on the day.”
Councillor White added: “A big thank you to all volunteers who turned out in the rain to help weed, litter pick and tidy up the Spinney, which is an important green space in the town. It is amazing how much better an area can look after a few hours’ work. Hopefully now that Coastline is on board, we can tidy up other areas throughout the town.”
The Spinney is a well-used walkway in Camborne near the Parish Church. Extensive development of the area was undertaken in 2004 at a cost of more than £100,000, mostly funded by the Countryside Agency’s Doorstep Green project.
