A worker at a Longdowns skip hire company is feeling the cold this week after Braving the Shave to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Julie Boyd was at Nick Ferris Skip Hire on Saturday to to have her head shaved by barber John Morley, and to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity.

She said: "Everything went really well. I had great support here and it was a great morning," and added that the event "went past so quickly I don't think I can remember much."

However she did think that the hairdresser was "shaking" from nerves as it was the first time he had shaved a woman's head, and she thought he might have been more nervous than she was.

Julie decided to Brave the Shave because, she said, she doesn't know a single person who has not been touched by cancer at some point.

She said: "I'm still raising a lot of funds. On my website there's about £570 and there's coming on for £200 in the box at work. I had a target of 3300 and I think I have doubled that.

"There's still people donating this morning as they are coming in, I think they were waiting to see if I would actually brave the shave."

She added: "I've now got a number one, I'm feeling the the cold. I didn't realise how cold it was.

"it's had a good reaction from other people so far, very supportive."
