The Helston Medical Centre had to be briefly evacuated this morning and three fire engines were called due to a small fire.

Fire appliances from Helston and Mullion were sent to the practice at around 8.30am to reports of an electrical fire, which they found to be out on arrival.

Ali Butterill, practice manager, said the "isolated electrical fire" was in a timer switch, and staff quickly extinguished it.

She said: "We always evacuate the building if there's any sign of a fire.

"We evacuated the building... it was just a fire blanket job then we let the patients and staff back in."

Upon firefighters arrival they used a thermal imaging camera to check that the fire was out, and a service spokesperson confirmed it was "accidental and confined."
