A new group of volunteers are behind this year's festive display in Mawnan Smith and are hoping villagers will turn out in force on Friday to join in the fun and see the Christmas lights switched on.

The fun will all kick off in and around The Square at 5pm ahead of Santa's arrival at 6pm and the switch on of the lights. There will be no parking on The Square, to enable the festivities to take place. These include hair plaiting and nail painting in the salon, face painting at the Cornish Maid, mulled wine and mince pies courtesy of the WI and hot dogs and other hot food laid on by the village scout group.

Mawnan School choir will also be performing along with the River Notes and Eight in a Bar will be in fine voice at the Red Lion.

The new Christmas lights committee has been formed for this year and is made up of Caroline Toland and Sarah Bailey, along with a few more enthusiastic volunteers, who have been fundraising and also giving up their time to put up the lights and organise Friday's event.

"Everyone has really pulled together as a committee, that's what we love," said Sarah. "It's also really nice to see some people who have just moved into the village join in."

She added: "We are really excited about Friday and hope everyone in the village show shows their support and joins us."
