There’s never been a better time to launch a business in Cornwall. That’s the message coming from a fully-funded project run from Truro that’s already helping more than 100 micro start-ups to get their businesses going.

The Spark project gives start-up businesses and those in their first formative year of trading a boost with a tested and trusted programme of support. This includes access to a diverse range of expert help, workshops and networking. The Project has already seen a range of starter businesses achieve huge success. Spark is fully funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and delivered by Truro and Penwith College. All you need to join is to be 18 or over and to have an idea for a new business.

The fully-funded programme provides insight and tools to move great ideas into action. The business support and training package is worth in excess of £5,000 per business start-up and there’s a grant of £500 for each participant who completes the programme.

Our team has a wealth of experience: our Spark co-ordinators and advisors have each set up and run their own successful businesses and there are more than 50 expert advisors allied to the programme.

One successful business that has benefitted from the Spark programme is St Just based 3D design and animation company Raptor 3D. Director Karen Nicholas found Spark an essential first step

“I saw the Spark programme as being a great opportunity to validate the business idea, update my business skills/knowledge, meet and network with like-minded people and receive the huge benefits including the mentorship, business space and grant.”

Launched in September 2016, Karen now runs the successful start-up around her family life.

One year on and Karen and the Raptor 3D team have gone one step further by linking their animations to virtual reality, allowing clients to ‘walk through’ proposed buildings and make adjustments to plans.

If you’re like Karen and have an idea, Spark can support you to start your own business. The project ends in November 2018, so contact Spark now to ensure you don’t miss out on an opportunity to ignite your business ambition.
