British Red Cross staff and volunteers who provide services to hundreds of vulnerable people across Cornwall have celebrated the official opening of their new offices at Tolvaddon.

The new offices will be the main base for Red Cross services operating across the county, including supporting people after a stay in hospital, responding to emergencies such as house fires and floods, providing first aid learning, and loaning wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

At the celebration event, Red Cross workers were joined by the mayor of Camborne, Val Dalley; the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Colonel Edward Bolitho; and Geoff Penhalligan representing the office of George Eustice, MP for Camborne and Redruth.

Rosie Jackson, president of the Red Cross in Cornwall, was given the role of officially cutting the ribbon.

Deborah Fisher, director of independent living and crisis response for the Red Cross in the South West and Channel Islands, said: “The day was very successful. It was the perfect opportunity to thank our volunteers and staff for the amazing work they do to support people in crisis across Cornwall.

“Our new offices are bright, modern and spacious and offer us a wonderful environment to grow our services across the county.”

Service provided by the Red Cross in Cornwall includes emergency response in times of crisis such as severe weather, short-term care in the home for adults recovering from illness or a stay in hospital, first aid training courses and mobility aids loans.
