Wendron 0, Porthleven 4

PORTHLEVEN surged to the top of the SWPL Division 1 West table in style as they put four goals past Wendron in the space of 20 minutes at Underlane on Good Friday.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Port found themselves four goals up by the 68th minute, with Matt Drummond (2), Rob Carey and Matt Thackeray scoring for the visitors.

Porthleven began to threaten from the 10th minute with striker Rob Carey having two shots blocked by Matt Larcombe, before his third was spilled by keeper Tom Collins before it was eventually cleared.

Wendron started to fashion opportunities of their own with a great ball from Ryan Tresidder to TJ Walter resulting in the latter's cross being cleared just before it reached Scott Palmer.

Walter was looking like being the danger man for Wendron, and he was played through on goal again but he was unable to find a way past visiting goalkeeper Jason Robertson.

Port started to ask questions of the Wendron defence shortly before half-time as Matt Dawson blazed a shot over, while Drummond saw his strike deflect over the crossbar.

The sides went into the break level but Porthleven were ahead within five minutes of the restart when Drummond ran to the byline, cut back inside and fired into the bottom corner.

The visitors wasted no time in doubling their lead and in some style with Carey curling into the top corner from outside the box just four minutes later.

A shell-shocked Wendron conceded again on 59 minutes when Drummond's header at goal was blocked, with Thackeray on hand to score a simple header with the rebound.

Drummond completed a nightmare 20-minute spell for the home side by scoring his second of the game with a looping header over Collins in the 68th minute.

Porthleven continued to bombard the hosts as Jack Rapsey and Carey both shot wide, while Thackeray’s diving header also went wide for the Fishermen, who leapfrog Ludgvan into top spot.
