POOPLA - a slightly more "earthy" take on hoopla - was just one of the games enjoyed at this year's Penryn May Day.

Beautiful weather brought out the crowds for the annual Maypole Dance, followed by a day of fun activities such as poopla and tin can alley, before the day finished with the traditional duck race.

Secretary Pip Carlton-Barnes said: "We think our Maypole Dance is unique because we don't have dancers as such, we just give the public a ribbon and show them what to do. It was one of the best weaves that we've had."

The event has been organised by the Glasney Green Space Regeneration Project for the last six years, after the previous organiser passed away.

For the 11th year in a row, folk group Bagas Crowd led the procession from the Glasney Field to Doorstep Green, from where the Maypole Dance began.

Eighty ducks, which were raced in the Antron River from the bridge under the viaduct to the second bridge, were fished out of the water by Pip and Kirsty Garwood, wife of chairman Dave Garwood.

"We're always looking for more people to help with the organisation and we welcome fresh ideas. Anyone would like to get involved can contact Pip on 07769 313706 or email glasneygsproject@gmail.com"
