Truro lottery winner Peter Congdon (70) has celebrated a National Lottery milestone with the delivery of a millionaire worthy gold playstation to the post office where he bought his winning Lotto ticket.

Since the first draw on November 19, 1994, The National Lottery has now created an amazing 5,000 millionaires and the last 1,000 have been made in just 29 months, at the rate of more than one every day.

In Peter’s TR postcode district, 20 millionaires have been created and 159 prizes of £50,000 or more have been paid out to those lucky winners, including great grandad Peter Congdon who scooped £13.5m on a Lotto Quadruple Rollover Jackpot in 2015.

After winning small amounts of money on National Lottery Scratchcards three days in a row, Peter was told to try his luck when he bought the £13.5m winning National Lottery ticket at Trelander Post Office.

Returning to the same shop three years later, Peter revealed the limited-edition gold playstation to surprised shoppers.

Giving it his own stamp of approval with a gold handprint, the winning great granddad wrote a message of luck to all future players directly onto the gold playstation.

“Since the win so much has changed for our family. We’ve been able to enjoy freedom and also support the Merlin MS Centre, who were great looking after my wife,” he said.

“I’m hoping that this gold playstation will bring a little bit of extra luck to Truro players so our millionaires club can grow even bigger. Lots of people jokingly ask me to rub their ticket for luck, now everyone can rub my lucky handprint instead!"

Trelander Post Office Shopkeeper’s Judith and Roger Smitham were happy to see Peter again and thanked him for his ongoing support.

“It’s amazing to think there are now 5,000 lottery millionaires who have all enjoyed that same winning moment as Peter, a moment which for many starts at the National Lottery playstation in their local shop," Judith said.

“Here’s hoping this gold playstation will bring us even more luck so that more Truro lottery millionaires can join the 20 lottery millionaires already made in the TR postcode area!”

Nationally more than 38,800 big winners of £50,000 or more have been made across all National Lottery games since 1994.

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at the National Lottery said: “The winners team here at Camelot travel the length and breadth of the country paying out lucky winners every day. It is no surprise to me to see how lucky Truro has been and I’m sure I’ll be back there soon with another giant cheque.”
